How Can I Tell Anyone?

Shelley just took a pregnancy test. It is positive. She is devastated. She just lost her job, she has no income. Rob has told her that he doesn’t want kids. He has a 5 year old that he doesn’t support. Her mom will be so disappointed with her. She doesn’t know what her friends will say. She doesn’t know what to do.

Dare she tell Rob and risk him leaving her? Does she tell her mom and face that look on her face? She doesn’t know who of her friends she can trust. She feels backed into a corner.

What should Shelley do?

  1. Take a deep breath. She has some time to think about her options.
  2. She should make an appointment at somewhere like ABC Women’s Clinic. She will receive evidence based, nonjudgmental information. A clinic that does not profit from her decision. Her options will be discussed and her pregnancy confirmed via ultrasound. She will be tested for STDs, something that needs treated before an abortion.
  3. Think about all of her pregnancy options. In thinking about her future, which of these options does she believe she can live with?

Another thing that we offer to women who don’t have anyone to confide in is an opportunity to speak with someone in a confidential, safe and non-pressuring place.

This can be a confusing and stressful time in any woman’s life, we are here to help. We have answers you need. We may not be able to answer the question of whether she should tell others, but we definitely can give her all of the information she needs to make the best choice possible.
